Tanabata Renka – Nobira

So I found a new Iroha song that I really like~

Translating the lyrics makes me realize it’s a sad song ;-;

But, still pretty.

As for those of you waiting for a new chapter, I ask for your patience. >_<

Tanzaku ga irodoru Machi wa azayaka ni
Adorning the tanzaku The town is vivid and brilliant

Waraigoe hibiku Natsu matsuri
Laughter resonates The summer festival

Yasashii kaze ga nagareru
A gentle wind blows past

Kyonen no imagoro wa Futari de musunda
Last year, around this time We were linked

Negaigoto Ima wa hitorikiri
A wish Now I’m alone

Mou kimi wa inai yo
You’re not here anymore

Kimi to sugoshita yoru Mada wasurerarezu
The nights I passed with you I still can’t forget them

Saite kieru hanabi ni Omoi kasane
Because of the fireworks that bloom and fade My feelings pile up

Miageta yozora ni wa Ama no kawa nagare
In the night sky I look up at Heaven’s River (the milky way) flows

Tada negau koto wa Kimi ni aitai
The only thing I wish for Is to meet you

Kensou wo se ni shite Aruku Kaerimichi
Turning my back on the hustle and bustle I walk The way back home

Geta no naru oto ni Sukoshi dake
The noise of my geta Only sounds a little

Mune wo shimetsukerare
It puts a pressure on my chest

Kimi to sugoshita hibi Mada wasurerarezu
The days I passed with you I still can’t forget them

Ano kawa ni nagaruru Tanzaku no youni
The river flows Like a tanzaku

Kokoro wa samayotte Kimi wo sagashiteru
My heart loiters Searching for you

Hakanaku yurete Naita fuurin yo
It momentarily sways The crying of the wind chime

Hitori no yo wa ima mo Nareru koto mo nakute
I’m still not used to the nights alone

Kimi wo yobu koe Seijaku ni kie
The voice calling out to you disappears into the silence

Aitai to negatte Aenai koto shitte
Wishing to meet, knowing I can’t

Mada namida nagareteku
My tears still flow

Kimi to sugoshita yoru Mada wasurerarezu
The nights I passed with you I still can’t forget them

Saite kieru hanabi ni Omoi kasane
Because of the fireworks that bloom and fade My feelings pile up

Miageta yozora ni wa Ama no kawa nagare
In the night sky I look up at Heaven’s River (the milky way) flows

Tada negau koto wa Kimi ni aitai
The only thing I wish for Is to meet you

The days I passed with you I still can’t forget them

I probably could’ve translated some parts better, but for the most part, it’s translated literally. Also, I pretty much ripped the lyrics from the video (well, identified the kanji and typed it out) so if there are mistakes, I apologize.

Here is a Vocabulary Lesson~

  • Tanabata Festival – Tanabata (七夕?, meaning “Evening of the seventh”), also known as the Star Festival, is a Japanese festivaloriginating from the Chinese Qixi Festival.[1] It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of thelunisolar calendar. The date of Tanabata varies by region of the country, but the first festivities begin on July 7 of the Gregorian calendar. The celebration is held at various days between July and August. • Tanzaku -In present-day Japan, people generally celebrate this day by writing wishes, sometimes in the form of poetry, on tanzaku (短冊 tanzaku?), small pieces of paper, and hanging them on bamboo, sometimes with other decorations (see also Wish Tree). The bamboo and decorations are often set afloat on a river or burned after the festival, around midnight or on the next day.[9] This resembles the custom of floating paper ships and candles on rivers during Obon. Many areas in Japan have their own Tanabata customs, which are mostly related to local Obon traditions. (Taken from Wiki)

  • Geta – Geta (下駄?) are a form of traditional Chinese-Japanese footwear that resemble both clogs and flip-flops. Geta were invented by the Chinese and then introduced to Japan from China. They are a kind of sandal with an elevated wooden base held onto the foot with a fabric thong to keep the foot well above the ground. They are worn with traditional Chinese and Japanese clothing such as kimono or yukata, but (in China and Japan) also with Western clothing during the summer months. Sometimes geta are worn in rain or snow to keep the feet dry, due to their extra height and impermeability compared to other footwear such as zōri. They make a similar noise to flip-flops slapping against the heel while walking.  (Taken from wiki)

Also, for the line “会いたいと願って 会えないこと悟って”

The latter line’s kanji is actually “悟って satotte” instead of “知って shitte” but in the video Iroha says shitte so I left it as is. Unless you can read satotte as shitte, then it might be a typo. They practically mean the same thing though.

As for the “crying of the wind chime,” it literally says “cry.” Try thinking of it as the wind chime ringing out though?
